Putting books in the hands of children across East Africa β one drive, one shipment, one story at a time.
Who We Are
Buugaagta Barashada Library is a grassroots literacy initiative dedicated to collecting and delivering English-language books to children in Ethiopia and Somalia. We believe that access to books is a fundamental right β and that every child deserves the chance to read, learn, and dream.
Through community book drives, international partnerships, and close collaboration with local schools, we work to close the literacy gap in underserved communities across the Horn of Africa.
Our Impact
What We Do
At the heart of our work are community-powered book drives that mobilize donors, schools, and volunteers to gather high-quality English-language books β from beloved children's fiction to essential math and science texts. Every drive is a collective act of generosity that directly fuels a child's future.
Getting books across borders is no small feat. We navigate complex logistics by building trusted relationships with local carriers, international freight partners, and customs liaisons β ensuring every donated book arrives at its destination school safely, on schedule, and in the hands of eager young readers.
We don't just send books β we listen first. By working closely with teachers, school administrators, and community leaders in Ethiopia and Somalia, we identify the specific learning gaps in each community and curate our donations to meaningfully strengthen English literacy, mathematics, and science education where it matters most.
Our mission grows only as far as our community carries it. Through grassroots fundraising campaigns, public events, and passionate storytelling across social media, we build the awareness and financial support needed to expand our reach β bringing more books, to more schools, to more children who deserve the chance to thrive.
